I do not follow recruiting closely. It is the silly season of the college football world and I do not have the knowledge or time to sort through rumor and innuendo. I typically just wait until signing day to see where we are at. So it takes a special player to get me to really pay attention in January. A special player like…

GUNNER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, this is huge people.
As broken by the Notre Dame student newspaper, The Observer, it has been confirmed that Gunner Kiel has enrolled at Notre Dame, will begin classes this week (perhaps today), and should be moved-in to O’Neill hall by the end of the week. Welcome to Notre Dame, Gunner!

Just wanted to add, that back during the Stanford IBG, Inside the Irish blogger Keith Arnold asked “4. You’re Brian Kelly. You spent last recruiting class successfully upgrading the front seven of the defense. Over the next two recruiting classes, what position groups do you absolutely need to upgrade to get the Irish over the BCS hump?” I replied in no uncertain terms that we needed to bolster the QB position. http://www.gameday40.com/ibg-lumberjack-edition/
Can’t think of a better way to celebrate Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday!!!

Doesn’t he kinda look Clausenesque? No limo like Jimmy but plenty of recruiting drama.

There are some similarities true, starting with the fact that his older brothers play FB, too, and Gunner was the prodigy. Was there any other real drama on the actual Clausen decision? He didn’t waiver on the choice at all did he? I still think that Tom Brady is kind of a delta-bravo, but I think Weis had Brady call Clausen during the recruitment to tell him how much Weis could teach him about being a QB. Ring any bells?

My question is redshirt or no redshirt?

If the Irish have an answer at QB already on the roster, then he gets to sit a year. Whether there already is a QB on the roster is the million dollar question though.
